Forkhead box protein C2 (FOXC2), a transcription factor of the forkhead/winged-helix family, is required for embryonic development and many other key physiological processes, such as osteoblast differentiation, lymphangiogenesis, and angiogenesis. FOXC2 was reported to function as an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) related gene during not only tumor progression but also organ repair. FOXC2 is overexpressed in patients with esophageal cancer and cholangiocarcinoma, and a high expression of FOXC2 in tumor tissues is related to cancer progression and a poor prognosis. These data were consistent with other cancers, including breast, colorectal, nasopharyngeal, esophageal, lung, ovarian, cholangiocarcinoma, and osteosarcoma.
